Top 5 Makeup Geek Eyeshadows | Review & Swatches!

Hey guys! I am back today for another little review of my favorite Makeup Geek shadows! Makeup Geek is a super affordable company that was started by Marlena or Makeup Geek on Youtube, and they have the best eyeshadows! They recently launched a blush line as well as a Foiled eyeshadows line which i have yet to get my hands on- and she’s also formulating lipsticks that will be out in a few months.

I love watching Marlena’s videos on Youtube and I cannot live without her shadows. I think they are so comparable to MAC shadows and I would actually prefer these shadows over MAC shadows any day. I do have to order them online versus going to my MAC counter that’s just down the street and wait for them to arrive, but in my opinion, it’s totally worth it. Her eyeshadows are so buttery smooth and pack such a pigment to them, it’s so ridiculous.

She sells the eyeshadows in pans for $5.99 and in little compacts for $7.99. I like getting them in pans because that way I can pop them into my Z-Palette and I can see all the shadows at once. I don’t like to fidget around with compacts and opening and closing them and getting one out at a time, then closing them all and it’s all just too much. I don’t know how she’s able to sell her eyeshadows for only $5.99 when they are just as good as Urban Decay, Lorac and Mac shadows. If you haven’t tried these shadows, please do! The shipping is so fast and to ship to Cali, it’s only like $1 for shipping. I’m not sure how much it will cost for other countries, but they do ship worldwide! I loooove them.

I’m going to place an order soon for her new Foiled eyeshadows, and I will do another swatch post and review, but for now I’m just going to talk about the shadows from her original line. These are the shadows I can’t live without!

So here are my favorite Makeup Geek shadows:

First up is Cocoa BearCocoa Bear is the nickname of her fianceé as well as a beautiful matte reddish brown eyeshadow. It’s like a reddy brick color, but still considered a neutral. I don’t use it straight into my crease, but I love to sweep it over top brown eyeshadows in my crease and outer V to give it definition and make the look even more warm toned, which I love.

This shade is Homecoming, a medium brown shade with gold shimmer. It’s a taupe shade to me and I love to apply it onto my lids or my inner corner just to brighten up the eye look. It looks beautiful with a smoked out crease, or even just alone if you’re in a rush and heading out the door. I used this one religiously for months to pack onto my lid.

After Homecoming is Créme Bruleea matte medium sand color. You may look at this color and think it’s too orange and would never wear it. Trust me, I thought the same thing! But this color is my ride or die, holy grail, bring to a desert island, can’t live without, top eyeshadow out of the bunch. Yeah, I’m being a bit dramatic but trust me, it is THAT good! I use it every single day with my Morphe MB23 fluffy brush and sweep it into my crease and a bit above it. It helps all the other shades transition smoothly with no harsh lines, and you can even use a bit of it to help shadows blend out easier onto your lid. I love an intense smokey eye and wear one pretty much every single day, whether it’s morning or evening- I can’t live without a beautiful smokey eye. So this shade is just perfect for layering shadow after shadow to create definition in the crease. Love!

Next up is Brown Sugar. It’s described as a warm shimmery copper brown. To me, I see even a hint of red tones in there. It’s shimmery but not glittery, it’s more of a satin, and is so buttery and pigmented. They all are. I love to add this one into my crease for smokey eyes and it’s great all over the lid if you’re going for a brown smokey eye. It’s so beautiful, I can stare at it al day.

Lastly is Mochaa deep matte brown. That’s all there really is to it, but it’s such a staple in anybody’s makeup collection whether you’re a pro or just starting out. It blends seamlessly into the crease. I use it to build up intensity in my smokey eye shadows and it looks beautiful! I can’t live without this shade. It is a bit dark, and it’s so pigmented so be careful when you’re dipping your brush into the pan. But if you use it lightly and build the color, it’s perfection. It’s love, people. Love.

So that’s it for my favorite Makeup geek shadows! Not only are they super pigmented and are half the price of MAC shadows, they last so long on the lid, even longer with eyelid primer, and don’t budge or crease throughout the day! I will be doing another review and swatch post when I get my hands on more of their products, I have some of their brushes and extra shadows so if you want more swatches and reviews on those, let me know!

Makeup Geek is a great brand and if you haven’t gotten your hands on them, it’s worth a try because they are affordable, ship worldwide and have such amazing color payoff with each of their products.
