Original Beauty Blender | Review

Hey beautiful people!

I’m back for a review of the original Beauty Blender sponge! I have the OG pink one, I’ve gone through about two now I believe, I buy them in packs of two for about $23 or so from Makeup Geek’s website. Such a great deal since each one retails for $19.95. You can buy them at Sephora or their website.

Since the beauty blender’s grand debut and incredible feedback from customers, the Beauty Blender company has expanded its line to create the beauty blender liquid cleanser, a solid cleanser, different colors of beauty blenders for different purposes, and even micro.mini beauty blenders that are minuscule beauty blenders meant to apply product around the nose, under the eyes or any parts smaller places around the face that the original beauty blender may not reach as well.

So let’s talk a bit about the beauty blender, its claims and how I like to use it. The beauty blender is a egg shaped and sized pink sponge that expands when wet. I run it under my sink, squeeze out the water, wrap it in a paper towel, and it grows to 2x its normal size, and it’s damp and ready to use.

The Beauty Blender company claims it “ensures impeccable, streak-free application with minimum product waste. Use it with primers, foundations, powders, cream blushes, and any other complexion product.”

I love to use the beauty blender to apply my foundation. I will squeeze the product onto the back of my hand and blend it in to warm it up a bit, then take the round side of beauty blender to pick up some product and begin to bounce it around my face, starting with the bigger areas like my cheeks and forehead, and then switching to the pointed tip to add coverage to my nose, under eyes, and chin.

Since it is damp, sometimes I don’t squeeze out all the water so that it applies my foundations very lightly and adds a nice dewy affect. I also like the cold, damp feeling on my face when I apply my foundations because it wakes up my skin in the mornings, and depuffs any under-eye bags as well.

Their motto and instruction to follow is wet, squeeze, bounce. So you would wet the sponge to allow it to expand and fill with water, squeeze out the excess water leaving it damp and plump, and then bounce it onto your face to apply the product. Make sure not to swipe or drag it across your face, but to really bounce it or roll it to reach the desired effect.

Sometimes if I use a brush and it leaves streaky or patchy marks on my face, I will go over it with my beauty blender to give it a nice, airbrushed look and “fix” it. Often times I will go over red areas of my face like around my nose or chin with another layer because the beauty blender does apply a pretty sheer coverage for the most part, but I would much rather layer on my foundation than have it go on full coverage and thick on the first layer.

I love the beauty blender because it gives a beautiful airbrushed look every single time. With my brushes, even the best ones like my Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki, it can still leave streaks sometimes, but since the beauty blender is a sponge and has no bristles, it will never be streaky, even if it tried. It gives a flawless, perfect result that is buildable and beautiful time after time.

All in all, this is a holy grail product for me, ride or die, can’t live without, bring onto a desert island with me. Yes, it’s $20 for a sponge, but it is so worth it I can’t even tell you! It’s an experience you need to have on your own.

I’ve tried the knockoffs from Real Techniques orange sponge, and some other cheap alternatives but they all suck, they leave a weird patchy, splotchy texture on my face that the original has never done, so I don’t recommend any of them! I do try to include alternative dupes or affordable products, but in this case, this is it! It’s so amazing and such a great applicator. I recommend it to anybody, anywhere, pro or beginner. 🙂
