Hey beautiful people!
So today we are talking about the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette! I am in love with this palette. I have the original one as well and both are amazing! I always love when makeup companies make a “sequel” to a successful original palette. A lot of the times, the original still stands to be the best, but in this case, I think I may have to side with the Semi-Sweet! I’ll tell you why in just a bit.
Here is what the packaging looks like, it comes in a paper box and the palette is encased inside along with a little eyeshadow tutorial fold-out. The palette itself is a tin milk chocolate colored case that houses 14 shadows ranging from shimmery, satin, and matte. The palette retails for $49.00 and is sold at Ulta, Sephora, and Too Faced’s online website. It is the second installation of Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar palette series, which is a cocoa-infused palette packed with neutral, chocolate-ly shades that smell absolutely divine- yes, it really does smell like chocolate!
Also, I’m really glad they decided to print the shadow names on the actual palette this time. With the original, they just included a plastic sheet with the shadow names on it which I lost as soon as I got it, which was unhelpful. Now, I can refer to the names when creating looks or tutorials! I’m glad Too Faced really listens to their customers.
Let’s dive into the shadows and what they look like! Here is the packaging and the glamour guide:
Here are all the shades:
Here are the swatches on my NC25 skin tone:
I heard a lot of reviews that were quite controversial, saying people loved the shadows, didn’t love them, they were pigmented, not pigmented, and so on and so forth. In my opinion, they are very smooth and buttery, and very pigmented. The only shadows that took a while to build up were “Pink Sugar” and “Nougat”, mainly because they were really light shades but also because they lacked pigmentation. The other one was “Blueberry Swirl” which is a bit disappointing, but not too much because it’s the one shade I will probably only use once or twice to be completely honest.
This is described to be a “warmer” version of the original Chocolate Bar, but I’d say both are pretty warm and I’m so happy about that, because I don’t like the way cool tones look on me, I don’t feel they’re flattering on a lot of skin tones, and I love neutral shades so much. It wouldn’t be a true Chocolate Bar palette without the neutrals! I think I like this one more than the original because although I love the original, there aren’t many dark crease colors I can use. I love to create a dark, sultry smokey eye and I need a dark brown and black to create that look, and the Original has a lot of mid-town browns, but I’m really happy they included a matte black in this one.
They seemed to blend well on my eyes, I don’t have any complaints, other than the matte black can be a bit hard to sweep into the crease without leaving a few harsh lines, but that’s how it has been with all matte black shadows I’ve seen. I love the two highlighter shades and how they are reasonably bigger than all the other shadows, it is 2x the size of one of them. There’s Coconut Creme, a matte cream, and “Butter Pecan”, which is a satin cream with a pink/gold reflect.
I love that there are more wearable shades for me in this palette, and both have such a great variety of all-over lid shimmer shades, but great crease/transition shades to smoke out in the outer V. I’ve been loving Peanut Butter to use as a transition, and they popped in an orange-tone shade in the Original Chocolate Bar palette as well.
All in all, I think that if you’re a neutrals lover, you’re going to love this palette. I know there are so many amazing nude palettes out right now (which I LOVE!) But this is one that you can just pack and go. Normally I would bring one palette for crease shades, one for a highlight shade, one for a lid shade, my Z-palette for my Makeup Geek transition shade and so on, but this has it all! It has the transition, the crease shades, a bunch of lid shades, and a satin and matte highlight so you can literally take your pick every time you pull this one palette out!
If you are debating whether or not to get it, I would say go for it. You don’t have anything to regret and if you truly don’t ever use it, you can always return it! But it’s definitely worth a try. 🙂
This is me wearing just the palette on my eyes!
